Somerset

Home to Australian legend and pioneer, Frank Jardine and his Samoan princess wife Sana from 1860’s to 1923. The original homestead was burnt to the ground in 1962 but many parts are still maintained in honour and respect of Frank and Sana. In 1879 a government geologist Robert Jack, convalesced at the homestead after being attacked by Aborigines at Captain Billy Landing. Frank also rescued many of the 158 survivors of the SS Quetta shipping disaster in 1890. Frank and Sana are buried by the beach near the homestead.
